How do you wash a synthetic wig?

There is no need to wash your new hair every day or even every other. The beauty of a hairpiece is that they are relatively low maintenance.

You should wash your wig around every 7-10 days. Washing synthetic hair too often can in-fact reduce the lifespan of your hair, additionally storing the wig on a wig stand is advisable and will help it keeps its shape.

Our ‘know how’ video bellow shows you how to care for your synthetic wig.

In the main the cap itself needs cleaning as this is against your skin and potentially you will get hot at times. The beauty is that you can remove your wig and wash it in the sink!

At Morgan’s we have a whole range of products for you to use and washing them under running water just like you wash your regular hair is all you need to do.

Washing your synthetic wig

  1. Firstly, de-tangle your wig using your fingers, wig brush or comb.
  2. Fill your sink or bowl with tepid water and a splash of your fibre hair shampoo (read the shampoo bottle for the manufacturers recommendations).
  3. Place your fibre wig into the water and gently swish your wig into the water/shampoo mix.
  4. Allow your wig to soak for a few minutes.
  5. Rinse your wig to wash all of the shampoo out. You can run your fingers through the wig gently to make sure that all the shampoo has been washed out.
  6. Make sure the water is going in the same direction as your wig, apply your fibre hair conditioner and use your hands to smooth through your conditioner.
  7. Rinse your wig using the same method as rinsing off your fibre hair shampoo.
  8. Squeeze your wig to get rid of any excess water, then place a towel over your wig and absorb water from your wig onto the towel.
  9. Place your wig on a wig stand and allow to dry naturally. Once dry, shake or brush your wig into your desired style.
